Bonfire Safety
-
Bonfires should never be built beside any building/structure. The construction should be supervised by a responsible adult watching out for electrical or phone cables overhead.
-
Never use any flammable liquid to ignite a bonfire.
-
Ensure the bonfire is always supervised by a responsible adult and keep the audience a safe distance back, as bonfires have been known to collapse when ignited. The adult should also carry a mobile phone in case of emergency.
-
Have an accessible fire extinguisher, water supply, hose, or bucket of water, fire blanket and first aid kit nearby for emergencies.
-
Do not allow fireworks to be thrown into the fire as this could cause serious harm to spectators.
-
If the bonfire gets out of control, call the fire service immediately on 999 or 112.
